CBD vs THC

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring compound found in the resinous flower of cannabis, a plant with a rich history as a medicine going back thousands of years. Today the therapeutic properties of CBD are being tested and confirmed by scientists and doctors around the world. CBD is a safe, non-addictive substance. CBD can provide relief for chronic pain, anxiety, inflammation, depression and many other conditions.

CBD is closely related to another medicinally active phytocannabinoid: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that cause the high that cannabis is famous for.

Both CBD and THC have significant therapeutic attributes; but, unlike THC, CBD does not make a person feel “stoned” or intoxicated. CBD and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body.

THC brings much-needed pain relief to some, while it may increase anxiety levels in others. THC may increase the user’s heart rate, posing a risk to someone with a cardiac condition. For these people, the chances of a heart attack may increase when consuming marijuana.

When purchasing CBD products, check to make sure your variety is pure CBD, Delta-9 THC, or Delta-8 THC. Delta-9 THC is a compound in the cannabis plant that produces a “high.” It’s what people are usually referring to when they talk about THC. Though Delta-8 is similar to Delta-9 THC, it has a slightly different chemical structure that makes it a lot less potent.

Delta-8 produces feelings of euphoria, relaxation, and potential pain relief. For people who don’t want to experience a pronounced “high,” the lower potency may be a benefit. Side effects of Delta-8 and Delta-9 products are: red eyes, dry mouth, rapid heart rate, trouble with coordination, slowed reaction times, anxiety, and memory loss.
